MACLAY EAST REGIONAL 2007
Hi, everyone!
On September 9, 2007, the Beacon Hill junior equitation riders participated in the Maclay East Regional Championship at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, New York. This year, I had the special privilege of riding a young horse, I Toon, owned by JT Farm at the regional competition. We have been working together since late January and we competed in our first major competition this past weekend. Frank and Stacia have been assisting me in preparing I Toon thoroughly for the challenging questions asked in the courses that are typically seen during indoors. By constructing courses at home with tight turns, steady lines and skinny jumps prior to our arrival, I Toon and I were prepared to meet the challenges of a tough weekend. The competitive courses at the Hampton Classic the weekend before the Maclay Regional competition were an additional beneficial experience for both of us and aided in our preparation for the Maclay Regional competiton.
Attaining the championship at the Maclay East Regional qualifier was another goal realized for 2007.
Catch up with me later this week when I will answer another one of your questions.
Thank you for all of your support and comments.
Talk to you later!

Congrats on winning the Regionals! I knew you would do great! Thanks for updating us about the road to the Maclay again and thanks for all the behind-the-scenes tips you give us! Hearing what you have to say and what Frank and Stacia teach you in your lessons is such a big help and inspiration. Keep up the blog and best of luck for the rest of the season! Really, Maria, thank you so much!

wjpo are some of your fello competitors??
i have a pretty stupid question to ask but i was hoping you would answer. for eq. do u have to do a half seat or is sitting the canter okay as well? does it matter. help from anyone would be appreciated as well. thanks a bunch!
^
To the post above mine, normally you half-seat in your hunter classes, but sitting the canter is normally done in the eq classes. I personally only half seat in my hunter flat and full seat for everything else (hunter o/f, eq o/f, eq flat) becuase I'm much more affective and it's what my trainer likes. Talk to her trainer and see what he/she thinks you should do be doing accrording to the level of riding and the horse you're showing!! I hope I was of some help!
congrats on regionals...so do you think you have a pretty good chance at the maclay? WHich horse are you going to be riding
^^ to two posts above mine, thanks that did help, but then why does everyone in the big eq classes do a light/half seat? i'm just confused. ive just switched trainers and my new trainer wants us to sit the whole time, however my old trainer wanted us to sit when flatting in eq classes and light/half seat in the jumping portion of the eq classes.
anyone know where the maclay regionals is for the south?
any idea?????
^Go to the link in Maria's original blog entry, and the regional championship article lists the when and where of all the other regionals.
^^^ My trainer has me sit in the flat, and a half seat in the jumping classes...I always see the other eq riders with a light seat too
anyone know if chelsea and any other heritage/beacon hill riders made it to maclay?
Yeah, a lot of trainers like their students to do different things as far as ur seat goes. Just do whatever your trainer asks you to do really. I agree w/ ur new trainer about sitting full seat the whole time b/c you have much more controll. I would practice doing both at home so if your trainer does ask you to half seat for a flat class at a show, you'll be ready. Like I said before, half seat is a little more common in the hunter classes and even though you may see riders in the big eqs half seat, just do what your trainer asks you to do. I went through a faze where whenever I wathced a rider at the show ride a little differently than me, i would ride like that and my trainer would get mad b/c out of nowhere, i had some strange habbit of flat hands, or my hands in my lap. Don't worry about the other rides as much and do what your trainer wants and what is right for you and your horse. I hope I helped again!!
Congratulations on winning Maclay Regionals this year Maria!! I hope you do as well in the finals. Thanks for keeping us updated about your junior career, its really cool that you take the time.
Congrats! i wanted to ask you deal with your nerves at these shows. I get awful nerves just showing at regular A shows. I don't know how I would deal with them if it was at an even bigger show such as the maclay regional or any type of indoor show at all. I really want to be able to do all of that next year, but I know my nerves will get the best of me. any advice?
