In what divisions do you show Whimsey? Did you purchase him from Katie Denby?
My family purchased Whimsey, currently, an equitation horse, from Kate Denby in the later part of 2003. A special fifteen-year-old birthday present, he is the only horse I have owned. Having a horse was always a dream of mine and having him is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
Whimsey had been a jumper before arriving at Beacon Hill. It seems that many equitation horses have another life before they are "converted." With the help of my trainers, he made the transition without difficulty.
Currently, Whimsey shows in all the big eq classes (Medal, Maclay, USET and Washington Eq). We will be showing in some classes at the Hampton Classic the last week of August.
Thanks for asking about him!

As finals approach, my trainer is making me ride without stirrups more and more. Although I only do the Mini-Medals, he keeps telling me that I need to do much more work without stirrups. He tells me that the top Big Eq kids, such as yourself, do not ride WITH stirrups all summer except when in the show ring. Is that true?
Any advise for keeping more weight in my lower leg / heels over the jump and not landing so heavily on my hands?
I thought that might be the same horse Katie had! Especially as it was nearing the end of her junior career! Great kid who took a fantastic interest in her horses and their care! I am sure that she is pleased that he is with a junior who is a involved with his care as you seem to be vs. one who just rides him only.
What, if anything, do you do differently in your lessons and schooling to prepare for the upcoming finals?
How has being on Horse Power affected you? Would you do it again if the opportunity came again - or would you say, "thanks, but no thanks"?
Do you know what time the maclay regionals start on the 4th?
Did Horsepower make you feel pressure to do well becuase u knew a billon horse lovers who want to be like u are watching?
the fist post is that true...also what if i wanted to do the big eqs could i just start now (i have no points)how many points do you need to do all of this stuff...
to the person above:
i've looked into it. you can't start till the new season but depending on where you live and/or what zone you are in depends on how many points you need.
Actually, any Big Eq class after Sept. 1st counts towards points for the next year. How many points you need to qualify depends on which zone you're in.
Good luck at Maclay regionals today Maria!
I saw you at the Maclay Regionals today and you did amazing. Congradulations on reserve campion!
